Larry H. Weiss, Esq.

Larry H. Weiss, Esq., is Secretary of the Board of Trustees of The New School of Biblical Theology, recruited by Dr. A. R. Bernard, Sr., as a founding member of the Board. He is a practicing New York attorney and provides legal and fiduciary oversight grounded in the New York Rules of Professional Conduct. As Secretary, he reviews resolutions, contracts, financial commitment instruments, and other Board-level documents for legal sufficiency and consistency with the institution’s governing instruments.

He earned a Juris Doctor at Brooklyn Law School in 1973 and a Bachelor of Arts at Queens College in 1969. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1974, to the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York in 1975, and to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1979.

Since 1998 he has been Principal Attorney of the Law Office of Larry H. Weiss in East Meadow, New York, a general practice with emphasis in real estate, estates, trusts, guardianships, negligence litigation, commercial agreements, and litigation. He has served as legal counsel to a not-for-profit religious institution for more than 30 years and as general counsel to a not-for-profit special education school for more than 23 years. His work as co-counsel representing the Christian Cultural Center in the Innovative Urban Village development has placed him in direct review and oversight of complex institutional matters involving public financing, multi-party agreements, regulatory disclosures, and lender covenants. Earlier he was a partner in Weiss and Cohen, Esqs. (1990–1998) and in Shifren and Weiss, Esqs. (1979–1989), both in East Meadow. Before that he was an associate at Halpern, Halpern and Axelrod, Esqs. in Mineola, New York (1978–1979), at Sunshine, Slott and Sunshine, Esqs. in New York, New York (1976–1978), and at Berel, Navarra and Mullen, P.C. in New York, New York (1973–1976). He was Adjunct Assistant Professor of Law in the MBA Program at Adelphi University from 1986 to 1998 and has served as an Arbitrator of the Nassau County District Court since 1985.

He has been a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association for more than 45 years. In the courts he has served as conservator, guardian, guardian ad litem, court evaluator, and attorney for petitioners in Nassau, Queens, Suffolk, and Bronx Counties, and as Court Examiner and Referee in Nassau County. He has represented incapacitated individuals in Suffolk County and has managed estates in New York, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties.
